CHINESE COOKING CLASS

Located in the heart of Petaluma, CA

You will learn the basic ingredients, condiments, and spices, techniques of stir-frying, roasting, braising, and steaming, and most important, how to prep to avoid feeling overwhelmed when cooking Chinese food.

I’ll teach one dish per class, with side dish if time permits. Each class would be 2 hours.

Private class or small group of no more than 3 persons.

I love cooking as well as writing about food. I authored two books on Chinese cuisine, entitled Not Just a Good Food Guide (2007) and Beijing Eats (2009). I also contributed to several guidebooks including Zagat Beijing, Fodor’s Choice, and Odyssey, while working as the food editor for Time Out Beijing (2006-2008). I also contributed reviews on the local food scene for Urbanist Hanoi, in Vietnam from 2019 - 2021.

I settled in Petaluma last March, and since then, I have been working as a cook for Poppy Montessori Daycare.

I am a native Chinese, born in Indonesia, and am quite experienced in Chinese cooking, as well as Indonesian. I lived in Taiwan for six years, Hong Kong for five years, and Beijing for 19 years.

With this background, I’d like to teach Chinese cooking in Petaluma, my new home with a goal to enable you to make a meal like a Chinese for your family or to host a party with Chinese repetoire, such as spring roll, wonton, Kongpao chicken, sweet and sour pork, roasted barbecue pork, and more…
